What cities should I visit in France?

Climbin boi asked:

I am going to France this summer and am going to Paris and Marseilles. My question is – what is a third city I should visit? Is it worth going to Marseilles to go see the French Riviera or is there something better I could do?

I wouldn’t bother going to Marseilles. It’s only port city , very large with lots of pick-pocketing.

Why don’t you go somewhere more attractive like Nice, Monaco or St Tropez?

You can have a stop between the 2, in Lyon, which has good restaurants.

Stop at the Loire on the way, or go via Strassbourg or even Bordeaux for more variety. There is so much tosee in France. Otherwise, it would be like limiting the US to NYC and LA.

a third city… hmm… that’s tough. if you want to visit another large city, then of course Lyon. but if you want to visit a smaller city, i would suggest going to alsace, the department(county) where Strasbourg is located. you can walk the route du vin, which is an old road that runs through the middle of all the wineries located in the Vosges mountains, its absolutely magnificent. plus alsatian people are really nice, and drink lots of beer.
