Wherever you choose to stay Lanzarote´s most popular holiday destination offers loads for visitors to see and do. Boasting excellent beaches, the best nightlife on the island and a host of good quality restaurants. Puerto del Carmen is located just a fifteen minute drive from Arrecife airport on Lanzarote´s sheltered south eastern shoreline. And was first developed during the 1960´s as Spain started to open up to tourism under the aegis of General Franco. Rapidly emerging from its former incarnation as s small fishing village called al Tiñosa into one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain.
Today the resort welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year – with the bulk of them staying in the New Town area which runs parallel with the main beach at Playa Grande. This is an ideal spot for families as the sand here shelves gently into the sea – making it safe for children. Whilst there are plenty of facilities such as sun loungers and toilets on hand.
Puerto del Carmen is my favourite resort, it was the one we stayed in years ago before we lived here but apart from sentimental reasons its because Puerto del Carmen is lively, there is good shopping with the choice in the Biosfera centre located at the top of the old town area and you can dance all night with the clubs along the strip and in Centro Atlantico. It’s also a family resort with plenty of golden sandy beaches and calm seas to swim / paddle in and with watersports of jetski hire and scuba diving on offer. There’s a plethora of bars and restaurants to relax in and enjoy great food. Lanzarote….have you been yet?
