Much of the A1 is now motorway standard, so that a constant high speed is possible. Other parts are more akin to a country lane. Allow ten hours driving from Charing Cross in London to Princes Street in Edinburgh.

Thats about right – 10 hours – I drove from Cambridgeshire to Aviemore on the A1 and that took 9 hours.

Faster router is M40 – M42 -M6 Toll – M6 – A702

Less speed cameras too. A1 is riddled with them.
