Liverpool Vacations: Things To See and Do When You Stay in Liverpool

Liverpool, the European Capital of Culture City. Certainly if you were to visit this wonderful city not just this year but next there will be plenty for you to do and see during your time there. You may not be aware but Liverpool is second only to London in terms of art galleries and museums per person. 

You’re also just a short trip from some oustanding features in the nearby countryside. In this article we take a look at some of the attractions which when you stay in Liverpool you may find interesting.

Of course no visit to Liverpool would be complete without learning more about The Beatles. The Beatles Story can be found in Albert Dock and here you can trace the group’s life back to the very beginning. The Story traces their route to fame and fortune. But not only does it look at their music but at their lives as they grew up and how they came to form such an iconic group.

Once you’ve been to the Beatles Story, here are some other sights you may wish to visit:-

1.     Merseyside Maritime Museum – Also located in Albert Dock this museum looks at the city’s maritime roots. Including how important both Liverpool and its docks were during World War II and how life was on the high seas for those who are in the merchant navy.  You also get to view what the Titanic, Lusitania and Forgotten Empress ships were like.

2.    Speke Hall – If you would like to learn more about what life was like back in the 15th Century then a visit to this attraction should be arranged. This is one of the most famous of all the half timber houses in the UK today and was originally built during the 1490′s. It has a complete history of its life during the last 500 years. 

3.    Knowsley Safari Park – This is the first of these kinds of parks which was opened by the 18th Earl of Derby in 1971 close to a city. Although most people go to visit the safari park there are plenty of other attractions for the whole family to enjoy. There is also the Reptile House, Children’s Farm and the Parrot and Sea Lion shows as well. 

4.    Western Approaches – This attraction is located under the streets of Liverpool and provides you with an insight into what life was like during the 1940′s. Here is where the people were under constant pressure to protect England from invasion and ensure that the Battle of the Atlantic was won by us.  As you wander through the labyrinth of rooms you will be transported back to one of the most dramatic periods of time in the UK’s history.
