How should I pack for a trip to London in April?

Mishe asked:

I’m going to London during the third week in April. I’m not sure how to pack. Does anyone know what the weather is like? I’m not sure if I should pack a light jacket? a raincoat? sweaters? t-shirts?
I usually try to dress in layers, so I’m guessing that would work.
I don’t want to have to pack everything in my closet. I want to try and travel light. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

april showers and still chilly in the spring. rain jacket is good. no shorts!
casual/smart casual and layers are good then if you get too hot you can remove a layer.
comfortable shoes for doing lots of walking
camera and money in bumbag or ***** pack as there are lots of pick-pockets especially in the underground

The UK is known for its April showers so I would pack a raincoat. It can still be chilly as well so make sure yo have some warm clothes. Make the clothes fairly light so you can add layers and take them off if it gets too hot. Although it is known for April showers the weather can surprise you.

The earliest I’ve been to London was the first part of May. If you can wait to pack, try the weather channel site and see what the forecast is for the days ahead of you. I found using a black and white scheme works very well for traveling with few items but a lot of versatility. Black slacks (for dressier outings if you are planning any), one or two pretty sweaters, and a white long sleeved shirt would be basic. Jeans are heavy to pack and can be uncomfortable to wear for a long plane ride but go for it if you have to have your favorite. A couple of decent tshirts could double for night shirts and tights under your slacks for cold days could double for jammie bottoms. Really good shoes are a must. If you are doing a lot of walking wear nylon knee highs under your socks if you are not wearing tights to keep from getting blisters. Definitely an umbrella and some kind of raincoat. Pick a few accessories and keep your valuables at home. I have travelled to Europe with one small check in bag and one carryon plus my purse since I often travel solo. There can be a lot of standing, waiting, and walking in unfamiliar terminals and the less to keep track of the better your disposition will be! Take a few pain relievers, antacids, and your prescription drugs and keep them separate in your purse. Remember to follow the ounce rules for liquids, gels, and the like, usually nothing more than 3 oz and must fit in a one quart clear zip lock bag–no exceptions and you will get through security just fine. Keep flipflops or ballet style slippers in your bag. Better than walking around in socks or barefoot and also you can slip into them on the plane. A knit hat and gloves would be good as the weather can be cold and damp. A couple of nice extras are an eye mask and soft ear plugs. You will feel better if you sleep on the way over and then make yourself stay up until the night hours London. Hmmm. Cannot think of anything else, but am really jealous that you get to go to London! Number one on my list and I would go back in a heartbeat if I could! I know you will have a great time!
