What part of the UK?
Scotland, Wales, England or Northern Ireland?
If you mean, London, England, then i would take has much has you can, it’s very expensive.
7350.75 rand converted from US dollar from JNB to LHR
12107.9723 rand converted from Britsh Pound from JNB to LHR
10380.949 rand converted from Euro from JNB to LHR
I’m pretty sure the pound is closer to 12 rand these days, so I’ll go by that exchange rate (if you follow you’ll end up with more money to spend anyway seeing as its more than 12 rand).
If you’re going to London, you’re going to need a lot more than if you go anywhere else. However, there is an area of London called Earlsfield (I think) which is very popular with South Africans, Australians and others when they move here. You can access central London via the tube from here, but as the area is further out the prices of hotels etc should drop a little bit.
Outside of London, hotel prices are looking at about R360-R720 a night depending on the quality and the distance from the city center of wherever you’re staying. To cut costs, you could always try if you’re up for the idea!
Eating out, you’re probably looking at R124-R240 for a meal, your best bet is to eat at ‘all you can eat’ buffet places, as you know exactly how much the meal will cost when you go in. Pub lunches are also cheaper, some from around R60.
Some other foods;
chocolate bar – R5
sandwhich – R24
chips – R12
kebab – R48
take away pizza – R120 at most
Wherever you’re going, you should check transport costs (if you’re using public transport – yeah it’s safe here!) because it will vary. Some places it can cost R48 for an 8 mile bus journey into the city center, while in others you can get an unlimited, all day ticket for the same price.
If you want to make sure you have enough, I’d say £20 a day per person (R240) will be enough, plus extra to eat out or do other activities.
If you want to go shopping or anything – for clothes, bits and pieces etc then I’d say R1440 is a fair amount.
