Get a dog who loves to travel. Put a sticker CC WP on your back window.(stands for concealed carry weapons permit). If you really have one great- So much for security.

Besides the Grand Canyon- there is the Metor Crater , Holbrook has some great fossils and cut rock, The dinosaurs are big out there, Rt 66 has a lot of exhibits along the way. Las Vagas is just a step away.

Carry extra gas (you will not believe how far it is between stops sometimes) Extra water. Some canned food you and your dog can eat right out of the can.

Get your car up to date on all maintaince. (carry an extra junkyard starter and fuel pump) You don’t want to be stuck some where waiting on parts.

It’s getting cold up there now. Get ready for some snow.
Carry chains and know how to put them on. (So you can escape to a more southerly route)

How much time do you have? Budget it carefully and tell people where you will be. Put something distinctive on your car as seen from the back so if you are late and your contacts call the police- they will know it is you.

Have a ball- really beautiful country and very nice folks to come and help if you need it.

You wont get ripped off. Just be sure to watch your gas gauge. Nothing ***** worse than running out of gas in the middle of nowhere. I live in Northern Minnesota and I have done it many times. Remember also (I only say because a lot of Europeans tend to forget) it is easy to find yourself in vast areas of the US that have no cell phone reception. Just a reminder.
