Ok, this is a strange question, granted, but I have become curious after reading a book about a guy who escaped a prison camp in siberia and trekked through siberia on his way home to germany..(As far as my feet will carry me..fab book).

I wondered how people who are out in the open snows and freezing conditions for weeks on end (such as herdsmen out with reindeer) cope when they need to urinate or defecate when it is so cold that the skin on their faces burns just through exposure? Would it be dangerous to expose the delicate skin while doing what comes naturally?
