Oh BABY BABY asked:
I am studying BTEC First Diploma in Travel and Tourism Level 2 which includes work experience in a travel agency. When I finish studying this I do not want to go on BTEC National diploma as I want to start earning money and go into employment in a travel agency.

Can you give me any tips on what my options are after this on what I should do after this course and what I can do to go to employment?

try volunteering in a travel agents to get experience
be kind look up holidays/
i work for a tailormade travel company and it really is nessesary to know the world pretty well. a prerequisite for working there is alot of travel experience, i.e we have to have been to at least 3 continents and spent an extensive time (6 months or more) traveling at one time. we have to pass a geography and maths test and then a long interview, there is also a 5 week training course. most people have degrees but its not essential, though it seems those are the ones that have travelled the most, i.e one of my colleages left school at 16 but lived in south america as a tour guide for 4 years and speaks fluent spanish. probably if you work for a package travel agents then those sort of things wont matter so much, but you definately need good geography.
i enjoy my job most of the time, its very interesting and its lovely when you set up a complicated itinerary for someones dream holiday and they come back and tell you how much they loved it.
good luck
I tend to use The Flight Centre to book my travel. Out of the high street travel agents, they tend to be among the better ones. I also get the impression that they are expected to have travelled a lot more. Pop into one and ask them for tips.
maybe you should be a travel referral agent- they earn money for referring the trip to the company’s travel agents, without having to actually book the trip themselves
Try visiting some local travel agencies and ask them how they got started. A good site to visit is:
They have a lot of good certification courses that you can take online, in addition to articles, virtual expos and more.
Another site is Agent at Home
Now if your looking to get your own travel business, another option is to have a home based travel business with a free option to build your own virtual company.
However, if you get a job with a traditional travel company then I would recommend against having a home based travel business due to conflict of interest.
What ever you chose, it is still about customer relations and selling travel.
I wish you great success.
my brother is doing the exact same thing !!!! lol
i would say finsh off that and go and see travel agents … they will give you advice.
