I’m planning a trip to Egypt next year with a group and am looking for any advice from more experienced individuals that may be beneficial or useful during my stay, which will be my first in this part of the world.
I am trying to learn as much Arabic as possible before the trip, but the fruits of that labour have been far from bountiful so far.
Thanks!

i’m arabic person and i went to egypt my advice is don’t get ROBBED in there cause you will find thieves from the first minute such as : some taxi drivers , sellsmen and people who offer help in the streets are always thieves .
be carefullll!!!!!!!!
you get hasseled helava lot
i went there for a week and only got back like on monday =P
its good
but they do try to sell you lots of things lol
out of the above comments, feel free to deal with people, you will find Egypt more lovely and friendly, never deal with people with others previous experience.
egypt is a rich destination to visit.enjoy your vacation regardless the others comments.
Remember your international travel adapter.
Never been to Egypt, but was stuck in a country without an adapter….
Most importantly:
Keep a business card with your hotel address with you at all times. Had to show a couple cabbi’s or citizens the card to get directions to it.
If you are trying to learn something learn how to say Where’s the bathroom and other important stuff first.
you will enjoy your trip to Egypt.
you dont need to learn arabic, for most of the Egyptians know English.
one tip. apply sunblock to the exposed parts of the body to protect them from the sun.
another is to drink bottled water and brush your teeth with it .
have a nice trip.
Don’t bend over in front of camels, or anything that wears a dress.
You got good advice from moonrise and ella. I’ve been to egypt twice. it’s extremely hot, so drink a lot of bottled water. The cab drivers will undoubtedly overcharge you……they are under the impression, as most people from that area, that ALL Americans or Europeans are rich. They think we have our own personal money trees. I suggest you contact your hotel and get the average charge for taxi services or have them set up your taxi service. I suggest only eating at hotel restaurants, because the local restaurants often misguide you what you’re really eating……ex: the hotel menu had chicken, but in actuality it was pigeon. If you’re a beer drinker….THE LOCAL BEER SUXS!!! The local beer is sooooo water down, you can drink about 30 and still be standing. What makes Egypt the best though, is other tourist like yourself…..so be social and you’ll have a great time. Also, Egypt has wonderful beaches.
its lovely there just enjoy your self, most of the people speak english so don’t worry about that, they do try to sell you a lot but just say la shukran, means no thank you. And Ignore them and walk away, they’ll not force you. and don’t be afraid to try all the food, as it’s very nice i tried many dishes,
Dont worry, Im Egyptian, though I dont live there, I go there every summer.
First, sadly, some people take advantage of tourists, and rob them (like higher the price), so bargain, learning arabic is good, but I think with the accent he might figure out u’re a tourist and rob u! Lol, theyre mostly taxi drivers, salesmen, etc.
Second, if you’re going to Egypt in the summer, I strongly recommend, sunscreen, its so sunny, and every time i go to egypt, i always have a sunburn Lol, ITS LIKE EVERY YEAR I GET A SUNBURN, MOSTLY BECAUSE WHEN i GO INTO THE BEACH AND THE SUN , ETC. loL
NEXT, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR TRIP, AND VISIT REALLY GREAT places, like cairo (pyramids), cities like: marsa matrouh, sharm el sheikh, hurghada, etc.
The country isn’t civilised, so you wont expect very clean streets and stuff like that, I live in Canada and I know the difference LOL
Next, try to know more about tradition , so you won’t be embarrased by any type
finally, HAVE FUN, Egypt is a great country, though theres alot of bad things like, pollution, poverty, etc
I like to call Egypt: BEAUTIFUL FROM THE OUTSIDE (pyramids, history, ancient egyptians, etc) and A disaster from teh inside (poverty and pollution, etc) so, for tourists its a great country, for citizens its very very very bad! I know that from teh family members always complaining about living there lmfaoo!
so HAVE FUN!and learn more about places to visit and dont miss out on special landmarks
hope I helped!
Don’t let people scare you. Society there is based on shame. If someone does approach you and you don’t feel safe, do not be afraid to be loud. I did not have any problems though and I was there for 3 months a couple of summers ago. You will not stand out as much if you avoid wearing name brand clothes. If you wear a Nike tshirt, you might as well carry a sign saying I am rich. Cairo is hot and many of the streets are dirty, but there are a lot of musems and shopping areas. I highly recommend spending much of your time in Alexandria. Not near as hot, fresh fish, a few beaches, not as many tourists. Don’t get on a camel or in a taxi without first agreeing on a price. Buy water in smaller bottles (don’t pay over 2 pounds), because people will often ask for a drink and hep A is a common occurance. Plan on getting to drink half before a little old lady asks for a drink. If you get sick from the food or just about any other bacteria, you can get Cipro at any pharmacy without a prescription. If you have any other medical problems, try asking a pharmacist first because often they will give you something or call a doctor for a recommedation. Don’t stress over learning arabic. Most people know some English. Don’t be too afraid to try new foods, but I recommend buying at a place that is busy. This ensures the food has not set out all day. Try the swarma (lamb wrapped in a pita). Kosheri is something pretty safe to get most places. It is rice, lentils, ***** peas with a tomato sauce. No meat or dairy. Have a great time. I hope this helps.
U will have much fun in Egypt…..Don’t worry Egypt and Egyptians are very peaceful, u will see that as soon as u get to Egypt!
Don’t listen to the haters
Enjoy your trip. Remember that there is competition in tourism that is why you will hear many who try to discourage you.
The best time is between October and May.
Take comfortable shoes, cotton socks, sunblock, a hat, cotton TShirts, cotton pants or skirts, drink mineral water from a sealed bottle, brush your teeth with it.
Girls can wear what they like in their hotel, at the beach and in touristic areas among groups, but in the street and in public transportation vehicles they are expected to wear knee length pants or skirts and cover their waists and stomachs. No need to cover the hair.
If you are with a travel agency follow their advice, ask them to arrange any optional visits that you want that are not in the program.
Most tourists express the wish to go back to Egypt, enjoy your trip.
anyone wanna go to egypt with me.. this was helpful
i recommend you
