Travel Guru Guide to Prague City Breaks

May 28th, 2009 — 07:31 pm
Guide To Prague City Breaks

Knowing where to go in Prague while on a break either during traveling through or stopping and staying is to know something about the city itself. Prague is the Capital of the Czech Republic and a famous historical city as well. Prague is known for hosting events like the Film, Music, and Writers Festivals as well as Fashion Shows. There is more money going through Prague than most places in all of Czech.

Prague Hotels & Sights

Prague has a wide range of hotels offering luxury and budgeted stay. The famous hotels of Prague are Corinthia Panorama, Corinthia Towers and Hotel Hilton Prague. Not to mention Prague has some of the most inspiring architecture around, one such is the St Martin Rotunda with its beautiful rounded design and historical significance. What about the grand Prague Castle and the glorious St Vitus’s Cathedral with its many spires and stained glass windows. Both of these will inspire even the most hardened of hearts and give you a memory you will never forget.

Prague City Break Attractions

There are other magnificent Churches you can visit while you are on your Prague city break, the Church of St Nicholas that brings the old world style and modern glamour in one. Then there is the view of the Wenceslas Square or the Prague Gardens such as the Petrin Park. The bridges in Prague are something else that should not be missed one fine example is the Charles Bridge.

The Neo Gothic towers of St Peters and St Paul, here you can see where myth and legend meet history are viewable by anyone and everyone as the first seat of Czech Princes and Princesses. You will also want to visit the Astronomical clock dial, which was made in 1410 by Mikulas of Kadan and Jan Ondrejuv called Sindel. There is also the National Museum to visit, the Rudolfinum or House of Artists and of course the many art galleries. You can find yourself basking in history or mixing it with the modern world.

Getting Around Prague

While on your Prague City Break you might find yourself wanting to spend more than a few hours wandering around and need a place to stay. Well with the new Ruzyne Airport only 20 km northwest getting there is easy, public transportation made up of trams and Buses or car rentals you can get around Prague easily and efficiently. There are many hotels in Prague to choose from Corinthia Panorama, Corinthia Towers and Hotel Hilton Prague to renting an apartment.

Top Five Ski Weekends Break

May 28th, 2009 — 08:26 am
Weekend holiday breaks are a great way to refresh yourself, unwind and recharge your batteries before getting back into the grind of working Monday morning. Long weekend breaks can usually start from Thursday straight after work and arriving back on Monday, therefore you would not need to take so much time off. The best way to fully appreciate your time off on a weekend holiday break is to take part in sporting activities.

Ski weekends are a very popular way of taking your mind off the real world and feel rest assured by the prospect of losing calories whilst on holiday. Going skiing in France or Italy, has been a popular choice for many and was once exclusive to the rich and wealthy. These days skiing is something that everyone including young people and students are able to enjoy sliding down slopes of the French Alps, without worrying about breaking the bank.

Looking for the right resort for the perfect ski weekends getaway, can prove to be a difficult task especially if this is the first ski trip you have ever made. For first-timers this is a very important part of your skiing experience as this is what will help to improve your skiing ability, for example choosing the resort with the best slopes suitable for beginners. There would be no point in choosing a short break in Morzine, France, if it is popular amongst expert and professional skiers.

A resort like Morzine is good for large groups and for people who are familiar with skiing on an intermediate level. Beginners will most likely feel overwhelmed by the amount of people taking part in skiing and intimidated by the expert skiers. Resorts such as Flaine or Meribel offer a great deal of comfort in practising your skiing techniques and provide good teaching grounds for private skiing tuition. Beginners should consider paying the extra cash on taking up on private skiing lessons, although group ski lessons are good for people not so keen on doing it on their own.

For those who are more experienced in the field of skiing, will perhaps feel that their ski weekends are best enjoyed in places such as Chamonix, Morzine, or Chatel In France. Other resorts which offer a diverse piste and off-piste skiing are Courmayeur in Italy, Verbier in Switzerland or Schladming in Austria. These resorts offer a great variety for the young or experienced thrill seekers, however beginners may feel out of place, therefore its is best to select your resorts carefully.

When travelling for a short skiing weekend break, it is always a good idea to buy insurance prior to boarding the plane. This is imperative to people going for the first time and is certainly a must for even the most professional of skiers, as it is best to prepare yourself for any unpredictable situations. It is not always a good idea to stick with the cheapest equipments as they may not be as durable as new equipment. Always purchase equipment and attires that is custom fitted for you, by approaching a well known retailers. If in doubt approach someone with some background in skiing.

The problem with taking a ski weekend break is that the only way people are able to travel further is if they are willing to pay the extra cash on the journey there and taking the time on fully enjoying the experience. Longer breaks are generally better for those looking to enjoy a relaxing time abroad as well as skiing. This could also be an ideal time for beginners to practise and improve on their skiing. One thing is for certain, that is a weekend away skiing will mean a good short burst of adrenaline rush and a good way to vent out any pent up frustration.

The Best Sightseeing City Breaks

May 27th, 2009 — 12:04 am
When you are on a city break, you want to be sure that you are going to have a fun and fast paced time that is full of excitement. Therefore, the first thing that you need to do is to choose your city break very carefully so that you can be sure you have picked one that is going to lead to the best holiday you can imagine.

There are several cities that make the best sight seeing city breaks. These include Pairs, London, and Barcelona in Europe, as well as New York City in the United States. These cities are going to be the best when it comes to city breaks, because you will be able to spend your time in the city and will never run out of things to do.

When you arrive in the city for your city break, the first thing that you should do is get a plan going for exactly what you want to do. It is always a good idea to plan from the evenings up. That is, you should first decide how many evenings you have in the city, and then see how many things you might want to do in the evenings. If you would like to go to a show, or a certain restaurant, or other such things, you should plan these first. Each of your nights should be scripted out, right from the start.

There are several reasons that you should plan your nights out first. Most of the time, the things that you are going to want to do at night are going to require tickets and reservations, so you should be planning these ahead of time. Next, it is also important to plan your nights first, because that way you can plan your days around those nights. If you are in a certain section of the city for your evening activities, you should plan on spending the day in that same area, unless you need to go back to your hotel for whatever reason.

After you have planned out your nights and days, you will see that you should have all of the time that you need to do the things you want to do on your city break. Be sure that you are giving yourself plenty of time to get from place to place, and remember that a city break should be full and exciting, but should not have every second planned out. You want to leave some time to be spontaneous, or to simply relax with the person that you are with.

Get Festive: Europe’s Christmas City Breaks

May 26th, 2009 — 02:43 am
As Christmas is literally around the corner, many European cities are preparing for the festivities by opening their Christmas markets. Historically part of the advent in Germany and Austria, it has now become part of the Christmas celebration in several cities around the world. While there are several Christmas markets around the world, the most exciting ones can be found in Vienna, Budapest, Berlin and Prague.

For the uninitiated, a Christmas market consists of several booths and stalls in the town square or other pedestrian zones selling food, drink and gifts. The food on sale includes sweets like ‘Gebrannte Mandeln’ (candied, toasted almonds), gingerbread cookies and ‘Christstollen’ or ‘Stollen’ (a bread-like cake with pieces of candied fruit inside), while mulled wine (with or without a shot of brandy) and ‘Eierpunsch’ (egg nog) are consumed to keep warm in the cold winter air.

In Vienna, the biggest Christmas market, Rathausplatz, is held in the square infront of the City Hall. Surrounded by the elaborately decorated trees in the park, it truly gives patrons the feel of a winter wonderland and offers several locations suitable for a souvenir photo. For most Viennese, Christmas Markets are not so much for shopping as for drinking, so it is a perfect opportunity to mix with the locals while sampling some of the local delicacies and mulled wine.

In Budapest the biggest Christmas market is held in Vorosmarty Square, where great emphasis is put on the quality of the handmade gifts on sale, being inspected by the Association of Hungarian Folk Artists. In addition, the quality of the entertainment has made it a truly exceptional Christmas market. This year it will be host to over 150 stage shows, including puppet theatre, folk dancing and folk music. Visitors can also make their own seasonal decorations in the heated marquee.

Berlin is host to over 50 Christmas markets, with the Gendarmenmarkt, held near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, being the most popular. Held in one of the most beautiful squares in Europe it is visited by over 4 million people every year. Berlin has a reputation for being home to young German artists, which means that in addition to traditional gifts and Christmas decorations, the fair offers unique jewellery, decorations, and artwork made by some of the most innovative artists around. The square is also surrounded by some of Berlin’s most famous department stores, making it an excellent place to do some Christmas shopping.

In Prague the two main Christmas Markets are held at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. Here, visitors can sample local delicacies like corn on the cob and sausages, while local and international choirs and musical ensembles entertain them as they browse the market stalls. The goods on sale include Czech glass, scented candles, wooden toys, ceramic mugs and Christmas tree ornaments. The square also includes a Christmas tree shipped from the Sumava mountains in the South of the Czech Republic to make for a truly spectacular view against the gothic skyline.

So if you’re looking to do some shopping while sampling some scrumptious festive food, a European city break to a Christmas market is the perfect way to enjoy the seasonal atmosphere of a continental Christmas.

Barcelona City Break Guide

May 25th, 2009 — 04:38 pm
There are many things that you will want to see and do while you are in Barcelona for your city break. Remember that in order to find time to do them all, you should plan your schedule out in advance.

Things to Do In Barcelona

One of the best things to do on a Barcelona city break is to get a hop on hop off bus pass. This will allow you to visit most of the important sites while you are in Barcelona. It will also give you two days of traveling on the bus in order to go from place to place, and will take you to all of the important sites. Many of these buses have two day passes you can buy, and this will be much less money than taking cabs. You will also be able to listen to the information on the tour bus and learn a lot about Barcelona.

One of the things that you want to be sure to do is to see as much of the art as you can. There are many examples of Gaudi that you can see all over the city of Barcelona. You can tour several homes made by him and several projects, such as the Sangria Famillia, one of the most important sites to see in Barcelona. You also want to be sure that you are visiting Gaudi Park, which is another important place to witness his art.

Arts & Culture

Art is not the only thing that you can see on a Barcelona City Break. You can also find music, which is something that you might want to check out. There are several live music venues that you can listen to while you are in Barcelona.

Another important thing to do on your Barcelona city break might be to check out the remnants of the Barcelona Olympics. Olympic park and village are two wonderful things that you will be able to see while you are there, and these are great experiences for your entire family.

Hit The Beach !

If you have the time, it is always nice to spend an afternoon on the beach at Barcelona. This can be a great way to enjoy the sun and sand as well as the water, and to be able to relax a little bit. Along with the traditional Spanish food that you will be able to find, you can enjoy both the day light hours and the night time hours as long as you are sure that you have it all planned out!

Guide to Paris City Breaks

May 21st, 2009 — 05:56 pm
When you have decided to take a city break in Paris, there are several things that you should do. The first thing that you want to remember is that your city break should be full of plans in order to fit in everything that you would like to do, but also that you should try to do a little bit of everything.

Plan Your Evenings

First, you want to decide how many evenings you are going to have on your Paris city break. Then, you should plan some definite events that you want to do on these evenings. One of the nights should include a nighttime ride on the water, in order to see everything lit up beautifully. Another evening should include a fancy night out in a restaurant. A third night should be a night where you can go for a romantic stroll.

Plan Your Days

After you have decide on your evenings, you should plan your days out as well as possible. If you have many days in your city break, you are going to be able to do many things. However, if you only have a couple, you are going to have to think carefully about what is important. You can see things like the Eiffel Tower, the Arch de Triumph, and several churches in one afternoon, simply by taking the underground to the various stops. On the other hand, if you plan on going to the Louvre, you should plan on having at least one full day to do this so that you don’t feel rushed and you can see as much of this as possible.

Explore, Explore & Explore

Another day you should leave for simply exploring. There are so many interesting neighborhoods in Paris that you can simply take your pick of what you would like to do. Would you like to wander down an expensive shopping street? Or would you like to explore an art district full of galleries and theatres?

Once you have decided which type of exploring you would like to do, ask your concierge which of the districts you should go to in order to do this. Remember that Paris city breaks should be fun and exciting, but should be tailored to your needs and the things that you like to do. In this way, you can make sure that the city break you have planned is exactly what you are looking for. There are so many things to see and do in Paris that you will be able to create an entire holiday around the things that you would like to do.

Ever Thought About a Relaxing Weekend Break in Birmingham

May 21st, 2009 — 02:30 pm
m, which is situated in the West Midlands, is the 2nd largest city in the uk. indeed, the city’s vast population is 2nd only to that of london.

Most of Birmingham city centre was destroyed during the 2nd world war, and unsightly replacement buildings were hastily erected. despite this, since the nineties, Birmingham has been undergoingsome radical changes and a number of the post war buildings have been replaced. most of the city centre is pedestrianized now, and the canals have also been cleaned up to make them image prettier.

Birmingham is well-known as a national commercial centre & it has been named as the 3rd best bits location in england to locate a business, & the 21st best in Europe by a 2007 cushman and wakefield report. in addition to this, its also the 4th most visited city by overseas visitors in england.

People who are from Birmingham are often called ‘Brummies’, because of the city’s nickname of Brum. This name comes from the city’s dialect name, Brummagem, which is derived from one of the city’s earlier names, ‘Bromwicham’. there is a distinctive Brummie accent, which is typical of people from this city.

One of the best things about Birmingham has to be its great museums, galleries and attractions which are fun & educational for the whole family. one of the most interestingis Dudley Zoo, which is situated next to dudly castle & has some fantastic animals who live in 40 acres of stunning gardens.

Some of our other favourites include the sarehole mill, bantock house & bantock house.

Birmingham has a bustling city centre that is packed with top high-street stores, so it’s a fabulous location for fans of shopping to visit. despite this, serious shoppers might rather visit the city’s Bullring mall. in actual fact, the Bullring is huge and boasts 160 shops, which include some fabulous names such as principles, agent provocateur and skechers. its also has a massive Selfridges shop and over 25 restaurants, so you can really spend the complete day there.

If you’re lucky enough to spend the night in Birmingham, you should take advantage of the city’s fun night life. The city has everything from quaint inns & vip wine bars to enormous clubs, which means that you’ll find that there’s something for everyone.

Needless to say brum has branches of much major hotel chains such as malmaison & radisson sas. This means that you can unwind after your massive evening out with a fabulous rest.

We hope that you’ve enjoyed our guide to stuff to do in Birmingham & would appreciate your feedback. If you require any further info on Birmingham, do not hesitate to contact your nearest tourist information office who’ll be pleased to help you.

Where should I go on a short road trip through the UK in March?

May 21st, 2009 — 02:21 am
mrs.darcy asked:

I am going to be in London from March 15th to March 23th, 2008 and was looking to possibly take a few days (perhaps three or four?) to drive and see more of the UK. I was in London this summer, and have done most of the touristy things there. Only one problem: I have no idea where to go! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to see/do on such a road trip? Perhaps castles or different areas? I have been to Stonehenge, Avebury, Canterbury, and Dover before, and was looking to perhaps go a bit farther, but still only taking a few days. I am American and have really no idea how long it would take to drive from London to Wales, Northern England, or even Scotland!

Thank you for any help! I am planning this trip as a surprise for my mother, and am really looking forward to being back in the UK!
Thanks all for your wonderful advice! I thought I would just mention that, yes, my mother and I are both fit; I am in my early twenties and she is in her mid-forties. So, any walking or national park type things would be a wonderful way to get out of the car.

Thank you again! All of this information is wonderful!!! I only wish March would come faster!

Booking a City Break Online

May 20th, 2009 — 05:38 pm
Once you have decided about the city break destination and the duration of a city break, then you next step is to choose an online travel agent who can deliver the best deal for a city break. While choosing an online travel agent, you should following things are to be kept in mind.

· Is the travel agent an affiliate of some other travel agency?

There are travel websites, which are using the services of other travel agents, and these travel websites are called Affiliates. There are chances that you may not get the best deal through an affiliate. Also, there are chances if you face any problem, then that problem is not being resolved.

· Whether or not the travel agent can meet your requirements of the type of travel you need?

If you need a customized package for your city break then you need to make sure that your travel agent is ready to offer you, what you need. It doesn’t make any sense that you are asking for 3 star hotels on BB basis and you are offered a 2 star hotel without BB. But sometimes it happens. Customers are told that the facilities are like 3 star, however in actual, it’s not the case.

· What type of security are they using?

Make sure your travel agent’s website is secure enough to handle all the transaction effectively and securely. If not then this can lead to Credit Card Fraud. Check the security seal on the website like, Verisign, Thawte, etc. for a secure online transaction.

· What is their reputation on the Internet?

You may check the online reputation of your travel agent by reading feedback or researching some time on the web. This will give you a brief idea about the travel agent.

· Do they provide any support during any emergency?

Most of the online travel agents do not provide support, when you encounter any problem in city break destination. Do ask you travel agent about the type of support they offer. There should be no ambiguity in your mind about the help & support offered by the travel agent.

· Hidden Fees

While booking a city break on the web, you may face a problem, which I will term as a Hidden Cost Problem. There are many travel agents on the web whose actual price is much greater than the price quoted for the city break. Be careful, you can be charged more than your expectations. These charges can be telephonic support charges, email support, postal support or anything. Ideally, a travel agent should not ask for such charges, but there are few travel agents, following this

These were the few things, which should be kept in mind while choosing a right travel agency. Once you have made your decision about the travel agencies, the next thing is finding the best deal for the city break.

For a best deal on city break you should go for the complete package instead of booking hotels from one travel agent and flights from another or vice versa. If you book complete package, you are likely to get the best deal on city break.

Cheap Weekend Break

May 20th, 2009 — 04:10 pm
One of the most significant aspects of vacation travel in Europe has been the recent explosion of interest in the short break vacation market. No-frills airlines have led the way to opening up cheap routes from London and regional airports to destinations all over Europe. A short weekend break in some thrilling city has now become a viable alternative to sitting home in front of the television set.

A UK survey of Britain’s vacation habits recently shows that this weekend escape plan is now worth a phenomenal £34 billion a year. People are spending an average amount of £760 a year on these short breaks, flying off to European cities, cultural festivals and sporting events.

The three-day break is most popular, with 21% of respondents taking Friday off work to fly out and 34% arriving back late Sunday evening, giving them some 55 hours away.

Edinburgh and Glasgow were some of the most popular weekend break locations in UK, while Paris, Amsterdam, Palma, Dublin, Brussels, Venice, Nice and Madrid were their most popular European weekend destinations. Other airlines have reported strong interest in Prague, Rome and Barcelona.

The key ingredients to a successful weekend break away were spending quality time with a partner, sampling local food and drink, cultural sightseeing, weather and, (for the ladies), shopping. Nightlife, perhaps unsurprisingly, was more important to the younger travelers than the more elderly.

Psychologist Dr. Aric Sigman said, “The results indicate that the British have now developed proper escape plans to counterbalance the fact that they work the longest hours in Europe. The low cost and accessibility of short haul travel now enables people to act out the growing need to be physically and geographically removed from their everyday surroundings in order to truly get away psychologically and emotionally. In fact it has been found that when it comes to dealing with stress, frequent short breaks are more effective than infrequent long holidays. What is interesting is that most people spend their weekend breaks in a low-key way involving time alone with their partner, dining and R

City Breaks In Cambridge, England and Some Facts You Should Know

May 18th, 2009 — 01:10 am

Cambridge is widely known all over the world for being home to the University of Cambridge, one of the most prestigious centres of learning in England. The University consists of 31 colleges including; St Catharine’s College, St Edmund’s College, St John’s College and Selwyn College which have a major impact upon the city. Although many tourists come to Cambridge with their main wish being to view the University, Cambridge has many more attractions worth a visit besides the colleges.  Happily there are a large number of Cambridge bed & breakfast to choose from (Important: for more information see bottom of article).

Cambridge dates back to medieval times and subsequently there there is an abundance of superb architecture. You may stroll through the ancient streets, enjoy one of the various gardens or parks or you could take a punt along the River Cam. If punting is your bag, then one could hire a punt or for something different one could rent a chauffeured punt. You will find numerous small firms offering this service along the river. Otherwise a cruise down the River Cam in a narrowboat.

The city of Cambridge is also widely known for its churches, with thirteen of them to be found within the boundaries of Cambridge. Of all the 13 churches situated in the centre of Cambridge it is All Saints Church which is reckoned to be one of the most fine samples of Gothic revival architecture in the country. Another unique church is Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is one of only 4 Norman circular churches in the country. The tiniest church in Cambridge is the Church of St Peter’s, which is hidden away in a quiet part of the town. Probably the most incredible panoramas across Cambridge and University colleges can be witnessed from the viewpoint of the Great St Mary’s Church, the University church.

As there is a vast array of tourist attractions available in Cambridge, it would be nearly impossible to view all of them in just twenty four hours.  Therefore we advise that you spend a minimum of 48 hours in Cambridge. If you are currently thinking about taking a break in Cambridge it is incredibly important that you book your  lodgings at your first opportunity as, sadly hotels in Cambridge tend to be alarmingly busy and are frequently fully booked for weeks or even months in advance. If your group is large you may find that Cambridge apartment accommodation are a more affordable alternative.

ElCapitain asked:

Next week my friend and i are going on a short trip down to the south west of england and we want to get some proper home grown cider from the land of cider. :) We are just not sure where to get some from and were wondering if anyone had any suggestions. We are looking for something thats maybe just made at a farm or something and tastes better than the supermarket brands (and the stronger it is the better). :) Would be really grateful if anyone has any suggestions. We are going to be all over the place from somerset to cornwall so doesnt matter where it is. Thanks. :)
