Caribe Cove Resort: There’s More to Orlando than Meets the Eye

March 31st, 2009 — 12:17 pm

There is more to Florida than the wealth of theme parks in the Orlando area. The city of Orlando provides a visitor with a multitude of sights, sounds, entertainment, and food, and one good place to find that is on International Drive, where, contrary to its name, you should park your car and wander around on foot. People come back here every year because they know it is where they will find everything they could possibly want.

A visit must be made to the Central Florida Zoological Park in Sanford which has been opened since 1975. Any animal lover would be in awe at their collect of over four hundred animals. It is actually a privately owned charitable group dedicated to the protection of exotic animals plus species that are native to Florida but also offers informative and child-friendly classes and events.

When seeing the sights you need to plan a stop at The Orlando Science Center. Located about twenty minutes from the Orlando Airport, you can find the super complex that was built in 1955. It sports over 2,000 square feet of space and over ten halls. The International Trolley and Train Museum contains 14 trains that continually run through the mountains, forests, and urban areas and they contain three waterfalls that run 12,000 gallons of water each hour.

There are plenty of resorts to chose from and a good place to check them out is the Trip Advisor website where you will find plenty of unbiased reviews, including the ‘candid’ travellers photos as opposed to the often unrecognizable official hotel ones. One brand new resort which is becoming popular is the Caribe Cove Resort in Kissimmee. Caribe Cove Resort is a platinum rated resort in a quiet location, yet close enough to the action, with enormous condos and first class decor and furnishings. It is surrounded by lush wetlands yet still only minutes from Disney and provides a real oasis to return to after a frenetic day at the parks and attractions of Orlando. There’s no need for ‘candid’ photos at this resort as what you see is really what you get!

The New Forest – Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary

March 30th, 2009 — 03:48 am

A beautiful day out and unmissable if you are visiting the Forest is a trip to Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary and the Ornamental Drive. A day can easily slip by in this beautiful woodland area with plenty to do for any member of the family.

In case you didn’t know the New Forest National park was once the hunting grounds of the former kings of England, and some of the ancient traditions are still practiced today by the commoners.

The car park at Bolderwood gets really busy, so on a really lovely sunny day, plan your trip early to avoid disappointment. Adjacent to the car park and the woodland there is an open green which is great for having your picnic and a family/friendly game of rounders. You can get a delicious forest ice cream from the resident ice cream van here.

Just inside the entrance to Bolderwood there is a marvellous woodland area with some picnic and barbeque facilities. You will also find a Forest Ranger manned information centre here which is great for getting advice and answering questions you might have about the forest. There are also some great examples of some of the foliage etc. that you will find during your visit to Bolderwood.

From the Woodland area of Bolderwood you can choose from a selection of walks. One of the walks is the Bolderwood Deer Watch Trail. Throughout the walk you might spot the odd deer in the forest among the trees if you are quiet but if you miss them then you are sure to see some deer in the nearby sanctuary. Here there is a viewing platform and the deer here are a little more used to human prescence so you are bound to catch a glimpse of some deer grazing.

You can take the Jubilee Walk which will take you through the Bolderwood Arboretum which began in the 1800’s. The arboretum is a marvellous display of many types of trees. Many trees were very sadly lost here during storms in the 1987 and again in 1991. Further trees have been planted now and is an ongoing plan to return this part of the forest back to its original glory.

An alternative stroll through this beautiful ancient woodland area will show you many more varieties of trees such as Chestnut, Beech, Oak and Norway Spruce. This walk is called the Radnor Trail and will also bring you about to the marvellous Deer Sanctuary and the viewing platform, if you haven’t spotted any Deer already during your walk.

The New Forest Cycling network which takes you through the many finest parts of the forest and links many of the major villages includes Bolderwood. Cycling through Bolderwood which includes the Ornamental drive is beautiful and can take about 3 and one half hours.

During your visit to Bolderwood you must take the time to drive through Bolderwoods Ornamental Drive. This is at its most beautiful during the summer and its windy narrow road takes you through the tremendous ancient woodland. It forms part of the 100 mile New Forest Cycling network so there are many cyclists along this route and because of its beauty the drive does become quite busy, so please be careful.

If you are looking for friendly local accommodation visit New Forest cottages for local self catering holiday cottages or New Forest hotels for luxury and hotel accommodation.

The Vatican City And The Holy See – How Are They Linked?

March 28th, 2009 — 02:13 am

the Vatican City

The term “Holy See” usually evokes images of Rome and the many buildings that one may see on the television when the Vatican City is shown. However, to understand what the term really means, one must understand that an actual difference exists between what is Vatican City and what is known as the Holy See. A person can take a trip back in time in order to learn more about how these two entities became synonymous with each other.

The Holy See is the actual governing body of the Vatican City state that is headed by the Pope himself. According to the history of the papacy, the See is derived from St. Peter the Apostle. This unique body of “government” has relations with many countries all over the world, even those that practice a religion other than Catholicism.

Vatican City on the other hand is the actual place where the See is located. This is where the tomb of St. Peter is located and where millions flock everyday to catch a glimpse of heaven’s messenger on earth, also known as the Pope. The current Vatican City state did not come into existence until 1929, when the Lateran Treaty was put into effect. With a population of only around eight hundred, this walled city-state is the smallest independent state in the world today.

The Holy See is not what many people think it is. Vatican City is where the Pope resides and the See is the governing body of this independent state. Oftentimes the two terms are used interchangeably, and this is very incorrect. By understanding that one resulted from Christ and his apostle Peter and the other resulted from a treaty, then a person can better comprehend what the Roman Catholic Church is all about. Power reigns supreme in most countries, but in Vatican City, God reigns supreme thanks to his emissary on earth known as the Pope.

Hawaii Is One Of The Best Retirement Locations

March 27th, 2009 — 12:29 am

If you dream of retiring in a private little paradise – a quiet community with no crime, where you can have your cottage by the bay, where you know everybody in town and people still wave as you pass each other in your pickup, well Hawaii is the best place for you.

In Hawaii, even if you’re broke, you can live off of fresh fish, coconuts and pineapples and you can sleep on the beach and bath in the 79 degree crystal clear ocean.  Hawaii has top-notch health care, loads of culture and lots of green space, truly one of the best places in the world to retire. The State of Hawaii is a state in the United States, located on an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia. The state was admitted to the Union on August 21, 1959, making it the 50th state. Hawaii's capital is Honolulu, but you should know that from grade school.  It was from this point out that Hawaii become one of the best places to live in one of the best countries in the world – the USA.

Only Hawaii and Alaska are outside the contiguous United States and do not share a border with any other U.S. state. This state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiin Island Chain, which is made up of hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles (2,400 km).  The climate of Hawaii is typical for a tropical area, although temperatures and humidity tend to be a bit less extreme than other tropical locales due to the constant trade winds blowing from the east. That’s perfect for a human beings and a host of animals and plants that we humans enjoy.

There are beaches from white to black. Some are miles long, others hide in tiny coves. Long, beautiful water falls cascade down high cliffs and slip quietly into the sea. The place is an exotic, tropical paradis due to the beautiful beaches and the very friendly and hospitable people that live in Hawaii.  And people are living longer in Hawaii than any other state. This makes it one of the retirement best places.

It's rare for a visitor to have a bad experience involving crime on the Big Island and like the rest of the country, call 911 in an emergency. If someone happens to have a bad or negative experience, the Visitor Aloha Society Hawaii does their best to see what they can do to remedy it and make you enjoy your stay.

Hawaii is an awesome place for hiking, with trails ranging from short, easy loops to demanding backcountry treks suitable only for experienced, well-equipped hikers. Hikers should carry plenty of water, sun protection and a cell phone. The best advice is to hike with a partner and let others know where you are going and when you should return.  Many visitors are drawn to the natural beauty found at higher elevations on Hawaii Island, such as on Kilauea, Mauna Loa or Mauna Kea volcanoes

Hawaii is also rich in culture and traditions. The hula is a beautiful flowing Hawaiian dance that tells a story. Mele or repetitive chants make up the music. The hula began in ancient Hawaii as a form of worship. The musical instruments were often made of gourds, coconuts, or logs covered with shark-skin membrane – and of course, the ukelele. The hand and leg movement combined with facial expressions and the dance itself tell the story of the hula. The hula survives today through study, competitions, shows, and the dances for the visitors enjoyment.

The Luau is known as the Hawaiian barbecue - for good reason. It is normally a large party where the main course is Kalua pig - a whole pig steamed in an imu (underground oven). You will also find pupus (hawaiian appetizers), laulaus (meat, normally pork, cooked inside ti leaves), limu (seaweed), lomi-lomi salmon (salmon cooked with tomato and onion), and haupia (coconut and pineapple pudding).

It is also popular for Lei-giving. Leis have many meanings and uses; the maile lei is the traditional offering to Laka, goddess of the dance, which is one of the reasons the hula dancers are so adorned with them. Leis are given to people arriving and leaving Hawaii and they represent love and friendship, these make you want to stay and forget about leaving.

A notable (and much-discussed) aspect of Hawaiian government and economy is its health care system, which insures over 95% of residents. Under the state’s plan, all businesses are required to provide employees who work more than twenty hours per week with health care. Heavy regulation of insurance companies helps keep the cost to employers down. If you want health insurance, Hawaii is one of the best retirement locations for it.

In addition, due in part to the system's emphasis on preventive care, Hawaiians require hospital treatment less frequently than their counterparts in the rest of the United States, while total health care expenses (measured as a percentage of state GDP) are substantially lower. Given these achievements, proponents of universal health care elsewhere in the U.S. have sometimes used Hawaii as a model for proposed federal and state health care plans.

Lanzarote Holidays – Finding The Right Resort

March 25th, 2009 — 12:17 pm

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the seven Canary Islands and has been welcoming tourists from across Europe for over forty years.  Consequently accommodation standards on the island are high – with options ranging from top end luxury villas through to small studio apartments.

Apartments in Lanzarote as with the rest of the Canary Islands can be found to suit all budgetary requirements which makes the Canaries a very popular destination.

Puerto del Carmen is the best spot for anyone searching for holiday apartments in Lanzarote.  As the resort boasts the highest concentration of complexes of any destination on the island.  With the bulk concentrated in the New Town area.  Which is clustered around the main beachfront thoroughfare – the Avdenida de las Playas.  Which runs for some 6km right through the heart of the resort and parallel with the main beach – Playa Grande.

The bulk of the best apartment accommodation can today be found in the New Town area – which essentially runs parallel with the main beachfront strip – the Avenida de las Playas.  Whilst the Old Town has become more of a residential zone.

Despite it´s popularity Puerto del Carmen is serviced by only two main Lanzarote hotels.  The San Antonio and the Los Fariones.  With the bulk of this type of accommodation located in the southern resort of Playa Blanca.  Which boasts a strip of new four and five star establishments along the seafront – all offering very reasonable room rates.

Playa Blanca makes for an ideal holiday destination – especially during the winter months.  As the resort enjoys the best weather and climate on Lanzarote.  Thanks to its location at the southern tip of the island just across the Bocaina Straits from the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Playa Blanca is also a relatively young resort – having only evolved over the last ten years.  Which means that most amenities are still virtually brand new.

Playa Blanca also boasts the highest concentration of holiday villas in Lanzarote. As unlike the older resorts on the island these were integrated into the development blueprint from the word go.  Some of the best of these properties are located in and round the Rubicon Marina – providing an atmospheric backdrop for a relaxed holiday on the island.

As well as good quality accommodation Lanzarote also boasts a host of
interesting tourist attractions.  Such as the Timanafaya Volcano Park, the green lagoon at El Golfo, The Valley of 1000 Palms and the Cactus Garden.  Fortunately the island is small, which makes sightseeing very manageable.  And car hire in Lanzarote is also relatively cheap – making touring the island affordable too.

For more information about general accommodation and Lanzarote villas visit the Lanzarote guidebook, where you’ll find everything you need to know about this enchanting island.

Staying In Stirling And A Number Of First Class Visitor Attractions You Must See

March 24th, 2009 — 12:13 am

Stirling has featured strongly in the history of Scotland, especially during important times. The city and surrounding area has an amazing selection of spectacular visitor attractions and masses of monuments and places to photograph. In the article below I describe three places to visit in Stirling; Argyll’s Lodging, Stirling Castle and Stirling Old Town Jail:

Stirling Castle

Two hundred and fifty feet above the city of Stirling, standing guard, and surrounded on 3 sides by steep cliffs is Stirling Castle. Stirling Castle is incredibly important in Scotland’s history, there have been a number of coronations in the castle, including that of Mary Queen of Scots in 1543. The castle was also witness to a violent murder in 1452. The eighth Earl of Douglas was victim to James II in 1452. The castle is the home of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, although they are, unfortunately no longer stationed at the castle. However, the regimental museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, is located within the castle.

Stirling Old Town Jail

The Stirling Old Town Jail we see today was not the original jail, for 400 years, Stirling’s prisoners were secured in the Old Tollbooth Jail. This jail was shockingly overcrowded, and smelt vile, with 24 prisoners to each cell, and zero sanitary facilities. The Tollbooth jail was condemned, because of the inhuman living conditions there, and in 1847 the new jail opened. Although the jail was classed as a custodial jail, from 1888 to 1935, it was also the only military jail in Scotland. Today the Stirling Old Town Jail is a visitor attraction, and was only renovated in the 1990’s. As well as guided tours, there is a glass paneled lift that rises to a viewing platform at the top of the jail. From this superb spot one is able to look out across the Forth Valley, and gaze upon the Highland mountains.

Argyll’s Lodging

Argyll’s Lodging can be found on Castle Wynd, near the center of Stirling and is Scotland’s best surviving renaissance mansion. The mansion was built around 1630, by Sir William Alexander, originator of Nova Scotia and Viscount Canada. Sir William Alexander who became Secretary of State for Scotland, and then became the 1st Earl of Stirling. Argyll’s Lodging became the property of the Argyll family on his death and was extended by the ninth Earl in 1666. The rooms which include the dining room, drawing room, bed chamber and laigh hall, have all been expertly restored and furnished, as they would have been when the ninth Earl lived there, circa 1680.

If you are thinking about having a holiday in Stirling you will discover plenty of online Stirling hotels and guest houses and you will discover a broad selection at http://stirling.hotelreservationhelper.com/

Family Fun Holiday In England – The New Forest And Moors Valley

March 20th, 2009 — 02:48 am

There is plenty to do when you visit Moors Valley country park and it is a fabulous day out for all the family. Entrance to the park is free of charge but you do have to pay for car parking. Attractions in the park incur an additional cost. Parking your car in the enormous parking area is a maximum of £8 for the entire day. Pretty good value for money really when you consider that you could easily spend the whole day in the park.

After parking your car in the spacious well hidden woodland car park and you enter further into Moors Valley you can breathe in the beauty of this country park – it really is lovely. The visitors centre is on approach to the park and this is a well blended 18th century barn that includes a restaurant and gift shop.

Close by to the 18th century visitors centre you will find a large play area for small and bigger children. Its spacious and very safe. Parents can help and watch their children from a safe distance and rest a while, while the children burn off their excess energy.

The station to the steam railway is located just behind the Visitors Centre. The steam train journey begins and ends here. The railway ranks up as one of the best steam railways in the country. The journey lasts for about 20 minutes and passes through some tunnels and tours around the park and lake.

An energetic way to get around Moors Valley if it something that suits you and your family is to hire a bike. Often you wish you had one of those bike carriers on your car – well here at this park you can hire one from the many available in the hire store. There are miles and miles of well mapped cycling paths here and it’s a great way to see the beauty of the park.

A great experience for the over 12’s and fairly fit is the ‘Go Ape’ experience. Go Ape is an experience of truly high wire acts in the tree tops and lasts for about 2 hours. This is great fun, truly energetic, a bit scary and a marvellous experience. Definitely not for the unfit and pre-booking is essential as very popular.

The play trail is marvellous for the children to get around the park having loads of fun on the wooden play features. This is an adventure and a half! Half way round is a tree top (not Go Ape) trail about 5 metres above the ground which all of the family can enjoy and then more wooden play equipment for the remainder of the trail.

After a day out at Moors Valley Country Park you can be sure that the entire family will have lots of fun. You can return to your New Forest holiday accommodation after having a fun filled, energetic, packed day and knowing that all will sleep extremely well that night.

If you fancy a rest the next down the city of Southampton is also only a short drive away and you can find information on the Southampton website

As such, it constantly has tourists streaming to it to enjoy the sights and attractions that can be found there. But, even with a strong tourism trade all year around, there are many who are eager to offer advice about when is the best time to visit Amsterdam.

And, what is that time of year? 5 Jet Lag Remedies

March 11th, 2009 — 09:39 am

Jet lag, for those who don’t know, is the effect of travelling between time zones messing with the bodies biological clock. It is defined as:

“A physiological condition which is a consequence of alterations to circadian rhythms”

The effects of jet lag can vary. Some people suffer only a few days of restless sleep whereas others may experience loss in appetite, headaches, constipation, anxiety and dizziness. There are a number of ways in which jet lag can be alleviated or the effects lessened. Here are a few suggestions:

Tasimelteon: This is a new drug developed by Elizabeth Klerman of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston along with researchers from Vanda Pharmaceuticals, Maryland. Tests have shown that those taking the drug found it easier to get to sleep than those who had not taken the drug. It is thought that Tasimeteon stimulates the effects of Melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep.

Melatonin: The hormone Melatonin is now a popular remedy for sleep related problems. Melatonin supplements can be purchased (in the United States) without a prescription. Melatonin research has presented a clear association with sleep and supplements that provide 0.1 to 0.5 milligrams of the hormone can bring benefits.

Fasting: Minimising the amount of food you consume before embarking on your flight can help lessen the effects of jet lag. Studies have shown that, when food is scarce, the normal biological clock may be overridden by another internal clock. A period of fasting, for about 16 hours before taking a flight, should be enough to switch the new biological clock into action and alleviate the effects of jet lag.

Orange Tinted Sun-glasses: It has long been known that Melatonin secretion in humans can be stimulated by light. Light from the blue end of the spectrum has been found to provoke a fall in Melatonin production. It is therefore likely that wearing orange tinted sunglasses will encourage Melatonin secretion.

Toe Scrunching:
Some travellers have reported that spending a few minutes tightly curling their toes while standing on a carpet or towel, just before going to bed, has a beneficial effect on jet lag. Some have reported that exercising in this way for between 2 and 5 minutes has had an immediate beneficial effect on their ability to get off to sleep.

Uruguay – The Best Country To Retire In South America

March 9th, 2009 — 06:20 am

Uruguay offers a high standard of living and amazing natural sights and many consider it a best place to retire. Uruguay has plenty to offer those who decide to retire in South America.Whether you hope for a newly restored colonial home with a spectacular view…a small cottage with a quiet internal courtyard…or a lazy beachfront retreat where you can sit on your balcony and watch the waves crash up on the sand…You'll find it in Uruguay.

Many recommend Uruguay as the best value for your second-home dollar. It has a south Atlantic Ocean coastline and lies between Argentina to the west and Brazil to the north. It is the second-smallest country in South America after Suriname.  But it is still one of the best places to retire.

The name Uruguay means river of the colorful birds.  It is related to the name Guyana: Arawak Guayana, land of many waters. The country has a mostly low-lying landscape.

Unlike its South American neighbors, crime is not a serious problem in Uruguay. Like anywhere, however, sensible precautions should be taken. That being said, Montevideo provides the highest opportunity for a run-in with pickpockets.

Uruguay has an extensive internal bus system.  Non-local / departmental buses leave from the Tres Cruces station which also serves the international buses. The buses are frequent and many companies serve the same routes.  Unlike other South American Countries, taxis in Uruguay are safe and fairly affordable. If you love to travel, Uruguay is one of the best places to retire in the world.

In rural areas hitch hiking is fairly common and as safe as hitching is anywhere. There are several places to visit in Uruguay offering a wide variety of activities.

Punta del Este is a popular hot spot for celebs to spend the nights partying. More than 100 hotels with charming Latin architecture, 80 restaurants, and numerous clubs and live music on the beaches all contribute.

Set on the Rio de la Plata, it offers beautiful wide, white sand beaches, some perfect for swimming and others for surfing (both with spectacular sunsets).  Punta del Este is conveniently located for day trips to the mountains to hike, fish, and windsurf, and boat trips to see sea lions, play golf, horseback ride, and visit different beaches.

Known for its cave system, Las Grutas Beach is can be lots of fun to explore, and offers live music, gym equipment, internet access, and entertainment right on the beach.  Nearby Jose Ignacio is also a good place to go to see some local architecture and eat some fresh seafood.  Uruguay offers plenty to do for the busy body in you, there are activities galore.

Approximately 60 percent of the population is covered by private nonprofit collective health care associations known as mutualistas.  Free coverage through the Ministry of Public Health covers approximately 20 percent of the population, and military and/or police or private company insurance covers approximately 10 percent. If you need affordable health insurance, Uruguay is one of the best countries to retire.

The contribution of its alternating conquerors and diverse immigrants has resulted in native traditions that integrate this diversity.Gauchos are big on pride and dignity and they have their own music and dance.

Even the Japanese have come to study programs considered more advanced than those in many wealthier nations in the First World.Besides financial assistance to the grandparents clubs and subsidized vacations at two government-owned resorts for the aged, the state provides psychological therapy to help its citizens adjust to retirement.

Lanzarote Holidays – The Hot Choice This Winter

March 6th, 2009 — 01:41 am

It may lie just seventy miles off the coast of West Africa. But the small Canary Island of Lanzarote is Spanish owned. And has long been a hot favourite with British and Irish tourists – who accounted for over one million visitors last year, attracted by a delightful year round climate, good quality holiday accommodation and the island´s unique volcanic scenery.

There is a wide choice of apartments in Lanzarote but if you prefer a more put your feet up holiday then the hotels in Lanzarote will also be to your liking.

At just four hours flying time Lanzarote is one of the closest winter sun holiday destinations to the UK. And is serviced by a number of the biggest low cost flight operators – such as easy Jet and Fly Monarch. Which means it is usually possible to pick up cheap flights to Lanzarote for as little as £200 return from all major UK airports.

Despite the number of tourists visiting the island there is only one international airport on Lanzarote – and it´s named after the nearby island capital of Arrecife. Although locals refer to it as Gaucimeta. Thanks to its central location and the small size of the island transfer times to the three main resorts are very quick. Averaging out at only twenty minutes.

The majority of visitors to the island arrive on package holidays. So they are usually transferred to their resort on board coaches provided by their tour operators. But Lanzarote is also very popular with independent tourists who like to make their own travel arrangements. And they rely on either taxis or hire cars to get them to their resort accommodation.

Car hire in Lanzarote is very good value in relation to many other holiday destinations. With prices starting from as little as €20 per day. Petrol is also much cheaper than in the UK or Eire, costing around 80 centimos for a litre of unleaded fuel.

Around 40% of all visitors book hotels in Lanzarote. Which are of a high standard, particularly in the island’s newest resort of Playa Blanca in the south of the island. Where all establishments built over the last ten years are of a four star standard and above.

Whilst the bulk of the best villas in Lanzarote are located in and around the resort of Puerto del Carmen. Which was once known as a small fishing village called La Tiñosa before package tourism first really took off on the island. Transforming it into the most popular resort on Lanzarote.

The island is also blessed with a raw volcanic scenery and plenty of natural beauty. Making it an ideal holiday location for sightseeing. Elements of the landscape have been united with the artistic aesthetic of the island born artist Cesar Manrique. Who created a series of seven unique tourist attractions during the 1970´s – such as the Cactus Garden and the Jameos del Agua – which still delight tourists to this day.

Have You Visited Disneyland Paris?

March 5th, 2009 — 02:46 am

Disneyland California

Before you visit Disneyland Paris, you may be wondering how is it different from Disney World Orlando? And, is it really worth the day. Paris theme park enthusiasts who’ve been to both parks have ascertained that the more up-to-date Pirates of the Caribbean ride is far superior to its American counterpart, the Indiana Jones ride is worth the money alone and the park itself is actually bigger than the Magic Kingdom, featuring many of the same areas. Of course, you won’t get Epcot or the Animal Kingdom like Disney World Orlando has nearby, but the Disney MGM studios have been recently added (called “Walt Disney Studios.”) As a singular park, the massive Paris park brings European charm to the Disney magic melting pot!

One major difference of Disneyland Paris can be observed in the Haunted Mansion attraction. In France, the ride is called “Phantom Manor” and is designed differently, with Second Empire architecture to look more like Gaston LeRoux’s Phantom of the Opera novel. The storyline itself follows that of the abandoned Thunder Mesa town. Unlike the other Haunted Mansions at Tokyo Disneyland, Walt Disney World Orlando and Disneyland California, Phantom Manor was made to look derelict and decrepit with overgrown weeds and warped paint. Also unique to this version is the haunted ghost town scenes of ghastly pharmacists, saloon pianists and gun-toting cowboys.

In 2002, Disneyland Paris opened a secondary Disney park with a movie theme called Walt Disney Studios. The newest land is the “Toon Studio,” where guests can go behind-the-scenes of Disney animators, participate in a drawing course taught by Mickey and Donald and check out the film set of Finding Nemo via Crush’s coaster. One of the most popular rides is the “CineMagique,” which is similar to the The Great Movie Ride at Disneyworld. Guests travel through scenes from some of their favorite movies, including: The Magnificent Seven, Mary Poppins, The Hunt For Red October, Pinnochio, The Titanic, The Exorcist, Monsters Inc., Silence of the Lambs, A Fish Called Wanda and Robin Hood. Aerosmith’s thrilling Rock N’ Rollercoaster and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror are here for the extremely brave and adventurous too! Also, don’t miss Catastrophe Canyon, which gives you a back lot tour, putting you right in the middle of explosions, flash floods, fires, earthquakes and everything movie production teams have to offer!

For Paris Disneyland hotels, there’s the Davy Crockett Ranch camp sites for the budget-conscious outdoorsy types, but be aware that this is the furthest Disney resort from the parks. The Disneyland Hotel has been dubbed “European Hotel of the Year” by the British Travel Agents Association and offers castle-like accommodations, in addition to character breakfasts for the kids. Children also love the Western-themed Hotel Cheyenne where they can play in Indian forts and eat in “barns.” Adults prefer the New York Hotel with its swanky Manhattan Restaurant or Newport Bay’s yacht club atmosphere. Santa Fe and Sequoia Lodge are also available, but not recommended.

Mount Fuji - Tokyo's Pride And Joy

March 2nd, 2009 — 12:25 am

Both the Japanese and people of different nationalities have aspired to scale the peak of Mount Fuji at least once in their lives. There are also millions of tourists who embark on a Mt Fuji tour every year in order to experience the journey. It might belong to the category of a dormant volcano, but there is every chance in the world that it might still erupt. So why are there still so many people who bear the risks just to climb Japan's tallest mountain?

To first understand that, one must take into account the symbolism of Mount Fuji in both Japan and across the world. The mountain volcano is considered the tallest mountain in the country, with the highest point measuring over 12,000 feet in height. As with many other well known mountains across Japan, Mount Fuji has its own legends that tell of its rise and fall, and permeates the folk stories of the Japanese. This has cultivated both a love for and respect for the snowy peak in the people.

The extent of their admiration for Mount Fuji can be seen in the many other smaller Fuji-sans sprinkled all across Japan. They are all much smaller mountains that have been given a name in memory of the original volcano. They serve to be an image of the mountain in their own backyard so that they do not need to go on a Mt Fuji budget one day tour. There are also numerous books on origami that show how you can have a mini Mount Fuji made from paper.

The symbol of Japan also fills the capital's landscape as Tokyo's west side is dominated by the sight of Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji is said to be very shy in nature as it often hides its peak behind clouds or haze. Mount Fuji's peak is only clearly seen and unhidden by bad weather for an estimated ten days per year. That rare occurrence perhaps adds to the mystic of the mountain.

A more negative aspect of the attraction that Mount Fuji holds for many individuals is the power and control it has over the immediate areas surrounding it. While Mount Fuji has been dormant for a long time, weather experts have warned that the volcano could erupt anytime soon. Tokyo and other cities in Japan will be devastated by such an event. This has led to many Japanese praying for a safe future from the gods and deities that are said to inhabit the mountain according to old legends. However, Fuji-san is also an enabler of economic well-being, with numerous cheap Mount Fuji hotels surrounding it, not to mention in Hakone and nearby resort towns.

One of the most telling signs that Mount Fuji is much loved in Japan is its imprint on the national 1,000 yen note. It is also the most common denomination of the Japanese currency, and perhaps symbolic of the importance of Mount Fuji in the people’s psyche for it to be used in such a way. The life and death of millions of Japanese are held in the cradle of Mount Fuji’s existence, and it is therefore hard to ignore the allure and attraction the beautiful mountain peak has throughout history.
